Up for sale, a Sequential Dave Smith Instruments Prophet ‘08 in near-mint condition, complete with the original slip cover and power supply. A worthy successor to its legendary forbears, the Prophet ‘08 is a discontinued iteration of Dave Smith’s pioneering polyphonic analog synth, combining classic sounds with modern functionality and reliability.
The Prophet ‘08 is an eight-voice analog synth with digital parameter control: with real analog oscillators, analog VCAs, and the famed Curtis low-pass filters, the Prophet ‘08 can easily reproduce the warm, punchy sound inherent to the Prophet line, with features including a gated 16x4 step sequencer, arpeggiator, and split or stacked key modes with separate stereo outputs per layer. Additionally, modern features like an expanded modulation matrix and additional modulation sources (including three envelopes and four LFOs per voice) dramatically expand the overall functionality of the instrument, making it ideal for slotting into modern rigs, and the Prophet ‘08 can also be used as an expander to increase the polyphony of another Prophet ‘08 (keyboard or module) to 16 voices.
Each voice includes two DCOs, a VCF, VCA, three ASDR envelope generators, and a noise source. DCOs can generate multiple waveforms with variable pulse widths, and the VCF can switch between 4-pole and 2-pole low-pass filters, with mod-able cutoff frequency and resonance. Modulation capabilities are further expanded by four general-purpose mod buses, enabling flexible routing, and some parameters (including LFOs and velocity) have dedicated modulation controls to bypass the need for a bus.
This is a clean example, with near-mint wooden endcaps, pristine graphics, and sparingly little wear on the enclosure.
The original power supply and slip cover are included.
