Up for sale, a Paul Reed Smith HDRX 20 tube amp head and 1x12” extension cabinet in near-mint condition and in perfect working order. This 20 watt amp captures the iconic ‘60s British-flavored sounds forever linked to Jimi’s iconic tone in a slightly lower wattage package ideal for studio, home and small stage usage.
Central to this premium PRS amplifier is the “Authentic Hendrix” touring circuit, heavily inspired by one of Hendrix’s personal amps (used at Woodstock), which Paul Reed Smith and PRS amp designer Doug Sewell were granted access to study in 2018. Designed to provide tremendous high end clarity without ever getting abrasive, the HDRX 20 is thick, articulate, and commanding, smooth and sweet when backed off and certifiably monstrous when things really get going. Tonal sculpting controls include a three-band TMB tone stack, 2-way Bright switch, high-mid Gain switch, and Presence controls (mirroring Marshall’s legendary offerings).
Featuring a dual-channel design, the HDRX 20 boasts modern player features like internally bridged channels with individual Treble and Bass controls, eliminating the need for a jumper cable and allowing players to dial in their distortion level and overall tone more easily, blending the Lead and Bass channels’ individual Volume controls. The circuit is driven by a pair of Tung-Sol 5881 power tubes, with three Genalex ECC83 valves in the preamp. The extension cabinet retains the original Celestion V-type speaker, offering a balanced, vintage tone with crisp highs and airy lows.
There are just a few minor marks on the black tolex, and a slip cover for the extension cabinet is included.
