Up for sale, a 2013 Gretsch Jupiter Thunderbird “Billy-Bo” Limited Edition Reverse Body model G6199RV in collector-grade condition, complete with the hardshell case. This exceedingly rare Gretsch was produced in limited quantities exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, featuring an inverted body with a gloss Black finish on top. The original Billy-Bo is one of Gretsch’s more unique and storied models, based on the iconic Jupiter Thunderbird designed in 1959 by Bo Diddley and later passed on to Billy Gibbons. When Gretsch and Gibbons paired for a full production run of the model, they made a few key player-friendly tweaks including a pinned bridge and pair of TV Jones Power’Tron pickups.
The chambered body is crafted from mahogany with a maple top, and this Billy-Bo is exceptionally resonant with a warm, clear acoustic response. The TV Jones Power’Tron humbuckers are designed to pair classic Filter’Tron jangle and twang with a PAF-style fullness and low end warmth, featuring larger bobbins and more windings, described by TV Jones as a “badder, gnarlier older brother to the TV Classic.” This Limited Edition Reverse Billy-Bo G6199RV weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
