Up for sale, a 2002 Epiphone Elite EB-3 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. A rare variant, unlike most Elitists which have an elongated “open book” headstock shape or the ubiquitous “bump” on top of the peghead, this EB-3 features the correct length Gibson-style shape.
Introduced in 2002, the Epiphone Elitist series of instruments were produced in Japan, and the exceptional fit and finish work of these basses, combined with premium, hand-selected tonewoods and components, easily elevates the Elitist models above Epiphone offerings produced elsewhere. This particular bass dates to the introductory year of the Elitist series, when these instruments were branded as “Elite”; the name was changed shortly into the run to avoid confusion with the Ovation model of the same name.
Premium touches include Gibson USA pickups and a vintage-accurate four-way rotary pickup selector. Surprisingly versatile, the EB-3 delivers warm, midrange rich snarl from the mini humbucker in the bridge position, and powerful low end thump from the neck position "Mudbucker." The four-way rotary pickup selector offers a bevy of tones at the flick of a switch, including the iconic fourth position Jack Bruce “choke” sound, and coupled with an extremely wide ranging pair of tone knobs, it's easy to dial in a sound that works well with a band and fits in just right in a studio environment. This EB-3 weighs 8lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.
