Up for sale, a 2000 Martin Standard Series D-40 in near-mint condition, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. An uncommon model only produced from 1997-2005, the D-40 acted as a middle ground between the relative simplicity of the D-28 and the ornate cosmetic appointments of the D-45, featuring abalone hexagonal inlays on the ebony fingerboard and an abalone rosette. This particular D-40 benefits from a recent professional neck reset and a tall carved and compensated bone saddle.
This Martin has been extremely well-kept over the last quarter century, and the instrument has an open, articulate tone befitting a guitar that's had time to open up and resonate beyond what one often expects in a "new" instrument. Featuring solid East Indian rosewood back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top, this D-40 has classic Martin dreadnought projection, percussive cut, and bold, full character with a balanced response across all strings, attributable to the body shape and scalloped, rear-shifted X-braced construction. Weighing 4lbs 13oz, this D-40 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Low Profile (medium depth C), measuring .830” 1st fret, .875” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, abalone hexagonal inlays
-Frets: Slender, pristine
-Scale Length: 25.4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”
-Headstock: Rosewood veneer, vertical abalone inlay
-Tuners: Schaller, Martin-branded (gold-plated)
-Serialization: Stamp on neck heel block dates to 2000
Body Specs:

A very clean example, cosmetic wear on the gloss nitro lacquer finish is limited to just a few faint finish scratches on the body. The neck profile is smooth and clean.
