Up for sale, a 1993 Gibson Chet Atkins CE in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A chambered acoustic electric classic guitar, the CE is among the most unique guitars ever produced by Gibson, designed in collaboration with Atkins and played extensively by Mark Knopfler.
For players that seek the feel and tonality of a traditional nylon string classical guitar, but with a feedback resistant body and an highly tweakable undersaddle pickup system, the Chet Atkins CE is one of the only, and arguably the best, options available. With Volume and Tone thumbwheels on the upper bout, and individual trim pots in the control cavity to tailor the volume of each individual string, the CE's pickup has far more flexibility than a typical piezo. The guitar weighs 8lbs 1oz, with the traditional tonewood combination of a solid spruce top and chambered mahogany body. We've had this Chet Atkins CE professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with normal tension strings and easy-playing action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Classical D, measuring .855” 1st fret, .880” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood
-Frets: Medium jumbo, pristine
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1 13/16”, bone (replacement)
-Tuners: Gibson-branded, Schaller-made
-Serialization: 8-digit stamp dates to ‘93
Body Specs:
-Pickups: Piezo undersaddle
-Controls: Volume, Tone (center detent), String Volume trim pots x6 (rear control cavity)
-Bridge: Rosewood
-Misc: “Soundhole” insert with Gibson and Chet Atkins signature script
-Marquetry: Rosette, multi-ply binding (top)
The gloss nitro lacquer finish exhibits broad checking, with some scuffing on top along the strum path, a small area of shallow buckle rash at the treble-side waist, and a few minor dings, largely relegated to the lower bout. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth to the palm, with just a couple shallow marks.
The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
