Up for sale, a 1989 Gibson Les Paul Custom in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Les Paul Custom “Black Beauty” comes from an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production colloquially known as the “good wood” era, featuring a carved maple top, mahogany body, mahogany neck, bound ebony fingerboard, and a pair of Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbuckers.
Weighing 10lbs 5oz, the guitar delivers a bold, muscular acoustic voice with great warmth and treble chime. At the heart of this Les Paul Custom are a pair of Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbuckers, known colloquially as Gibson's "circuit board" pickups. These short-lived medium output pickups handle gain extremely well, delivering a detailed array of tones that can be bright and growly or thick and punchy with the flip of a switch. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Slender ‘60s-style C, measuring .815” 1st fret, .950” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, pearl block inlay
-Frets: Jumbo, refret, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”, bone (replacement)
-Tuners: Grover Rotomatics
-Serialization: Eight-digit stamp dates to ‘89
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple, mahogany
-Pickups: Bill Lawrence-designed Super Humbucker x2
-Harness: CTS pots date to the 21st week of ‘89
-Hardware: Nashville bridge, stopbar
-Plastics: Black speed knobs, four-ply pickguard
The gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish is framed by multi-ply binding, with buckle rash central to the back and some small dings on the body. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and free of palm wear, exhibiting some shallow marks that don’t distract the palm while fretting.
The original brown Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
