Up for sale, a 1974 OMI Dobro Model 33D in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Built by OMI under the Dobro brand (pre-Gibson buyout), this roundneck Dobro features a chrome-plated bell brass body with an etched “French scroll” design, a mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard, and a single cone with a biscuit bridge.
Weighing 8lbs 8oz, this Model 33D delivers plenty of warmth and bell-like bark, very punchy and immediate. There’s an overarching sweetness to the sound not always attributable to a metal-bodied Dobro, and it excels at both picked notes and slide work, with plenty of lower midrange oomph and presence. This Model 33D has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action (setup for fretted playing).
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Chunky C, measuring .885” 1st fret, 1.085” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlay
-Frets: Slender, leveled and crowned, faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5
-Scale Length: 24 1/2”
-Nut: 1 3/4”
-Tuners: Grover Rotomatics
-Serialization: 6-suffix stamp on top of peghead
Body Specs:
-Material: Bell brass (chrome-plated)
-Bridge: Biscuit
-Cones: Single
-Marquetry: Punched f holes, etched “French scroll” design on front and back
Cosmetic wear on the body is limited to a couple minor dings on the rims, buckle scuffing central to the back, and some minor scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile exhibits extensive checking, with a few shallow nicks and scuffs along the profile length that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
