Up for sale, a 1968 Epiphone Rivoli EB232 in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Crafted by Gibson at their Kalamazoo factory and structurally identical to the Gibson EB-2, the Rivoli boasts an ES body shape loaded with a solitary “Mudbucker” pickup. This Rivoli also features the later (and much less common) bridge design with flip-up string mute and independent nylon saddles.
The semi-hollow body is crafted from maple (maple centerblock), paired with a mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The “Mudbucker” is powerful and thick-sounding, delivering great pillowy low end woof and deep thump, and these qualities are further accentuated via the shorter 30 1/2“ scale length and set of 45-100 flatwound strings. Further tonal versatility is achieved via the push-button Baritone switch, effectively a choke that toggles between the full, booming sound and a thinner, more mid-centric cut. Weighing 8lbs 12oz, this Rivoli EB232 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
Wood: Mahogany
Shape: Medium C C, measuring .845” 1st fret, 1.030” 12th fret
Fretboard: Rosewood, dot inlay
Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned, faint wear on frets 1-5
Scale Length: 30 1/2”
Nut: 1 1/2”
Tuners: Clover buttons
Serialization: Six-digit stamp on peghead
Body Specs:
Wood: Maple (maple centerblock)
Pickups: “Mudbucker” x1
Controls: Volume, Tone, push-button Baritone switch
Harness: CTS pots date to the 21st week of ‘68
Hardware: Four-saddle bridge with flip-up string mute and cover (chrome-plated)
Plastics: Witch hat knobs, one-ply tortoise pickguard with “E” Epsilon badge (replacement)
There is a very slight, professionally repaired split on the back of the headstock aligning with the bass-side tuning machines which doesn’t extend to the headstock face and is structurally sound. The gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish exhibits extensive checking, with a concentrated area of buckle wear on the back at the waist and various dings and scuffs from use. The neck profile finish is similarly worn with an easy-playing feel.
A modern Epiphone hardshell case is included.
