Up for sale, a 1965 Mosrite Ventures Model in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a flight case. While a flight case for touring purposes is in itself rare for a Mosrite, this one is considerably more interesting, with Japanese stickers from air travel and "Terry" written on the case exterior. In the world of Japanese surf guitar there is only one Terry, Takeshi Terauchi, and while this Mosrite doesn't come with any supporting documentation, there's a high degree of likelihood that this was one of Terry's instruments (this guitar was sourced directly from Tokyo).
Features of this Ventures Model include the notable sandcast Vibramute tailpiece of the earliest Ventures models, a small "Ventures" headstock logo and serialization stamped beyond the last fret on the bound rosewood fingerboard. The original pair of single coils with embossed covers are rich and bold sounding, detailed and dynamic with a distinct sound in every pickup position. Weighing 7lbs 14oz (quite light for a Mosrite), this Ventures Model has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Shape: Medium C, measuring .855” at 2nd (beyond the taper of the volute) and 12th frets
-Fretboard: Rosewood, mini dot inlay
-Frets: Slender "speed frets"
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 1/2”, zero fret + aluminum nut
-Headstock: “Mosrite of California” text, “The Ventures Model” logo
-Tuners: Kluson Deluxe double line
-Serialization: Four-digit serial stamped on last fret
-Factory Markings: Sept and Oct, 1965 stamps on neck heel/pocket
Body Specs:
-Wood: Basswood

-Harness: CentraLab pots date to 51st week of '66 (early replacement)
-Hardware: Sandcast “Vibramute” vibrato, bridge with roller saddles, smooth knobs
-Plastics: Three-ply mint green pickguard
The three-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is particularly bold, with prominent vertical lacquer checking, some finish chipping at the corners of the neck pocket, a small area of localized finish scratches at the treble-side waist on the back, and a few additional minor marks and light scuffs. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with some very minor finish chipping and a line of checking denoting where the fretboard meets the maple neck on both sides beneath the finish. There is no separation in this area, repaired or otherwise.
The "Terry"-marked flight case is included.
