Up for sale, a 1960 Gibson ES-175 in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Featuring an untouched neck position PAF, tonewoods include a fully hollow maple body paired with a very fast-feeling Honduran mahogany "blade neck" and dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The natural acoustic properties of the instrument are ample, and the guitar weighs only 5lbs 11oz.
The PAF meters at a robust 8.75k ohms with original windings and untouched solder on the pickup cover. The PAF is sweet and unceasingly warm with excellent sensitivity to picking dynamics and a clear, woody treble cut. The low end has a spongy, broad quality, while each wound string retains focus, yielding a nice growl when pushed hard. Strung with 11-49 roundwound strings with a wound G (.018), this ES-175 benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .775” 1st fret, .880” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Brazilian rosewood, pearloid split parallelogram inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, leveled/crowned (low), faint wear beneath B and G strings on frets 2-5 -Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”, nylon
-Tuners: Kluson single line, double ring
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Pickups: PAF, untouched solder, meters 8.75k ohms
-Harness: Replaced CTS 500k pots (1979 date codes)
-Controls: Volume, Tone
-Hardware: Brazilian rosewood floating bridge, diamond tailpiece
-Plastics: Gold reflector cap knobs, four-ply wide bevel pickguard
-Serialization: Orange label, R-prefix FON dates to '60
Original hardware includes the wide bevel pickguard which has a very (very) subtle repaired split adjacent to the cutout for the pickup. The Kluson tuners still turn smoothly, exhibiting some shrinkage of two of the tulip buttons. The neck set is ideal, and the medium jumbo frets have been recently dressed, with low crowns that play cleanly in every register.
The binding is no longer present on the treble-side of the neck. While the fingerboard retains its full width, there was enough roundover on the treble-side edge that there was no "shelf" remaining for new binding. The finish has largely been stripped from the neck profile, with two long repaired splits extending up the profile carve from the neck heel. These repairs were expertly executed, and silky smooth to the touch.
Excellent color is retained in the 100% original Sunburst nitro lacquer on both the top and back, and the top is remarkably clean save for the natural forearm wear and microscopically tight lacquer checking in this area. The back exhibits some shallow finish scratches, and there are some small nicks along the ambered binding with very restrained wear on the Walnut-finished rims.
A vintage (non-original) black tolex hardshell case with gold interior is included.
