Up for sale, a 1953 Fender Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A transitional model with a wide panel face, rear mounted control panel, 5C1 circuit, and 6" speaker, this four watt Tweed is as simple and pure as tube amp tone gets. For Tweed era Fender bark and cut, there are few better companions than a Champ, and this example has a vintage tube set to round things out.

The preamp is loaded with a bevy of original Astron caps, and the power supply has been cleanly recapped, with the new capacitors sleeved in the original Astron Minimite wrappers. The original particularly robust Triad power transformer is present, as is the small output transformer, mounted inside the chassis. A small piece of masking tape inside the chassis is signed "Julie," for the Fender employee who wired the amp in '53. The amp has been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable. The all-vintage tube set includes a Tung Sol-branded 6V6 power tube, with RCAs in the preamp and rectifier sockets.

The speaker has been replaced with a modern ceramic magnet Jensen equivalent, and this speaker does an admirable job of pushing decent volume with fuller/tighter low end than an alnico variety. The tube chart is intact, with a handwritten serial number that dates to '53.

The original lacquered tweed is only very lightly ambered, with very restrained edge wear. The Fender badge on the face of the amp is intact and the control panel has all of its white silkscreen text and a speckling of patina. The original leather handle is intact and unbroken.
