Up for sale, a 1949 Martin 000-21 in excellent condition, complete with a hardshell case. Identical in size and construction to the 000-28, this Style 21's distinction is its Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge (in contrast to the ebony board/bridge used on the 000-28). With extremely dynamic, eye-catching grain on the bookmatched Brazilian rosewood back and sides, this 000-21 has an impressive tonal range to match its good looks, having received all the maintenance due a Martin of this vintage. Professional servicing includes a neck reset, tall carved bone nut and saddle, full refret, and a new small maple bridge plate.

This 000's sound is lively and prodigious, with trebles that are bouncy, bell-like and sweet, while the low end has a woody cut and richness. From a delicate strum to a bold, lightly compressed rumble with a nice kick in the low end, this 000-21 has excellent dynamic range and string-to-string balance. The guitar weighs 4lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-54 bronze strings, easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

The spruce top exhibits plenty of natural playwear across the soundhole, extending to the treble-side upper bout, and the original tortoise pickguard sits flush with the top. The top has typical “B string crack” between the pickguard edge and bridge, as well as one other very slight crack repair at the treble-side lower bout edge adjacent to the binding. Pick wear aside, there are just a few small dings and scuffs from use on top, and the back exhibits some localized buckle wear at the bass-side lower bout edge and central to the upper bout, with various additional dings and scuffs.

There is an L-shaped crack repair extending from the endpin on the Brazilian rosewood rim, very cleanly repaired in-house with sparingly little touch-up, as well as one roughly diamond-shaped rosewood patch on the treble-side lower bot rim with targeted overspray in this area. There are also a few small crack repairs on the back at the body waist and treble-side lower bout. The neck profile and back of the headstock have been lightly oversprayed, and the smooth nitro gloss on the profile is largely free of palm wear, with some shallow scuffing behind fret 8.

A vintage (non-original) hardshell case is included.
