Up for sale, a Waterloo WL-14 X Scissortail acoustic guitar in showroom clean condition and in perfect working order. A subsidiary of Collings, all Waterloo instruments are hand-crafted in Austin, TX and are made to the incredibly high standards applied to all Collings instruments.Drawing its name from the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, a bird species common to the Central Texas Hill Country, the WL-14 X Scissortail is a special edition WL-14 that pays homage to the "Oriole" guitars produced under Gibson's Kalamazoo banner between 1940 and 1942. This rare and discontinued model is crafted with highly figured curly maple back and sides and vintage-inspired X-bracing, and the Scissortail brings excellent projection and focus to the flagship WL-14 series while retaining its woody, characteristic tone.With its 14 3/4" wide body and spruce/maple tonewood construction, the WL-14 X delivers ample projection and a singing, clear quality with strong note attack and percussive cut. Trebles are bell-like and sweet with just enough punch and a bouncy quality attributable to the maple back and sides, while the midrange is balanced and low end is focused and crisp. The guitar is featherweight at 3lbs 6oz, recently setup and dialed in with fresh 12-53 strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.The mahogany neck has a prominent V-shaped profile carve, measuring .940" deep at the 1st fret and 1.060" at the 9th. The Indian rosewood fretboard features flawless slender fretwire, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24 7/8" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The ebony nut measures 1 3/4" in width, and the headstock features relic'd strip tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably.The bridge is carved from ebony, with a carved and compensated bone saddle. The spruce top is accented by a tiger stripe tortoise pickguard, and the top and back are framed by dark tortoise binding. The maple back and sides are highly figured, and there's barely a scratch on the nitro lacquer finish.The original hardshell case is included.
