Up for sale, a Waterloo WL-12 in showroom-clean condition, complete with the original hardshell case. A subsidiary of Collings, all Waterloo instruments are hand-crafted in Austin, TX and are made to the incredibly high standards applied to all Collings instruments.
A variation on Waterloo's WL-14 flagship series, the WL-12 features 12 frets clear of the body, with a satin Black finish on top and tigerstripe tortoise pickguard. Crafted with highly figured curly maple back and sides and vintage-inspired X-bracing, the WL-12's geometry positions the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout, producing a rich and open tone with stronger low end response than is typically attributed to a parlor guitar.
With its 14 3/4" wide body and spruce/maple tonewood construction, the WL-12 delivers ample projection and a singing, clear quality with strong note attack and percussive cut. Trebles are bell-like and sweet with just enough punch and a bouncy quality attributable to the maple back and sides, while the midrange is balanced and low end is quite robust and warm. The guitar is featherweight at 3lbs 6oz, recently setup and dialed in with fresh 12-53 strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
The mahogany neck has an oval profile carve with full shoulders, measuring .890" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 9th. The Indian rosewood fretboard features Pre-War-style slender fretwire that shows only very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, playing cleanly up the 24 7/8" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The ebony nut measures 1 3/4" in width, and the headstock features antiqued strip tuners.
The bridge is carved from ebony, with a carved and compensated bone saddle. The spruce top is accented by a tiger stripe tortoise pickguard, and the top and back are framed by ivoroid binding. The maple back and sides are highly figured, and there's barely a scratch on the satin nitro lacquer finish.
The original hardshell case is included.
