Up for sale, The Tone God TubeUlent in mint condition, complete with the user manual and power supply. The TubeUlent is essentially a scaled-down tube amplifier, with the final output configured to operate as a preamp. It behaves like a tube amplifier not because it is an effective simulation but because it is, in fact, a tube amplifier; with no extra gain stages, artificial clipping techniques, or any other “cheats.” Tonally, it’s warm, sweet, and decidedly musical: if driven hard, the TubeUlent yields creamy breakup, and if scaled back, it delivers pristine cleans. Ideal as an always-on “amp-in-a-box” preamp, the Tubeulent’s size and weight make it very practical as a portable rig, instantly adding richness and depth to any setup.
Controls include Signal, Drive, EQ, Damp, Sag, and Level knobs: the Damp and Sag controls enable a level of adjustment and tonal sculpting precision often not accessible with genuine full-size tube amplifiers: the Damp knob adjusts the amount of feedback for the amp’s negative feedback loop, allowing the TubeUlent’s tonal profile to be affected significantly. For a tone that harkens back to the earliest amplifiers (with little or no negative feedback), turning this control clockwise essentially removes negative feedback for a decidedly “open” sound, or roll the control off to keep the signal clearer and give a “dampened” feel to the tone with large amounts of negative feedback. The Sag control delivers the sound vintage tube amps make when their power supplies are unable to fully catch up with power demands (when the amps are cranked and distorting), ranging from vintage-style “looser” sag to modern “stiffer” sounds.
