Stevens Custom Guitars OM Model, Spruce & Rosewood w/ Pickup & Case, German-Made

+ shipping

Up for sale, a Stevens Custom Guitars Model OM in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Since 1993, Stevens guitars have been built from hand-selected tonewoods by a team of expert luthiers and craftsmen in Munich, Germany. This OM boasts all solid woods with an X-braced Engelmann spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, and a one-piece mahogany neck with a soft V profile carve capped with a thick slab ebony fretboard.

Highly responsive to playing dynamics and emblematic of the best Martin OM-28s, this Stevens has a 15 1/8” lower bout width and 4 1/4” body depth. This OM offers ample power and projection, with exquisite string-to-string balance. The midrange is robust, the wound strings are focused, with just a hint of growl when digging in hard with a flatpick, and the trebles are pristine. The OM body size is very sympathetic to fingerpicking, with an even, warm quality in every register. This Stevens weighs 4lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings and comfortable action.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium depth soft V-shaped profile carve with modest shoulders, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 12th with 14 frets clear of the body. The thick slab ebony fretboard is framed by additional ebony binding, featuring notched diamond inlay and stock slender fretwire. The frets retain their full factory height, with notable grooves beneath the B and High E strings on frets 1-5 and fainter wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 9. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the 645mm (25.4”) scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original bone nut measures 44mm (just shy of 1 3/4”) in width. On the headstock, the Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean chrome plating.

On the body, the ebony bridge is flush with the spruce top on all sides, and the compensated saddle still has plenty of height. The action measures 8/64” on the bass side and 5/64” on the treble side, measured at the 12th fret. String spacing at the bridge is 2 3/16”. There’s modest belly of the top behind the bridge, and all bracing is stable. This guitar is fitted with a Schatten HFN Artist under-bridge active pickup which delivers a warm, even tone with plenty of midrange richness when plugged in. The pickup is powered by a 9V battery, and the Volume thumbwheel is mounted on the edge of the soundhole. The original label is also visible through the soundhole.

The Natural high gloss finish is accented by a teardrop tortoise pickguard and abalone rosette framed by multi-ply rosewood binding on the top and back. The spruce top has subtle bearclaw figuring on the lower bout, and cosmetic wear is limited to a spot of impact on the treble-side lower bout edge on top, with some finish checking extending from this area as well (nothing of structural concern). There are a handful of dings on the top largely concentrated on the treble side, and some faint scuffing in the clear coat on the back. The clean satin finish on the neck profile has been buffed to a semi-gloss through play and feels fast in the palm.

A hardshell case is included.
