Up for sale, a Savage Audio Blitz 50 amp head in exceptional condition and in perfect working order with custom orange tolex. Hand-wired in Savage, Minnesota, these boutique amps are prized for their pristine clean tones and earth-shaking, soul-trembling, “hell-raising grittiness.” Since its genesis in owner Jeff Krumm’s basement, Savage Audio amplifiers have found fans in artists like R.E.M., Wilco, and the Foo Fighters (to name just a few).
The tonal profile is not dissimilar to the iconic JTM45, with a bit more warmth and roundness to the low end and a bit less of an abrasive quality to the bite. The cleans are broad and big, with plenty of headroom at any volume, but this amp also loves to be driven and produces monster gain tones that easily rival any other 50 watt.
The controls include two Loudness knobs (one Bright and one Normal), Treble, Middle, and Bass EQ knobs, Presence and Reverb controls, and a Master Volume knob. There is also a switch to toggle between Tube and Solid State rectification. The ampe supports 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker loads. The tube complement includes a matched pair of JJ EL34 power tubes, a JJ GZ34 rectifier, and preamp tubes from JJ and Electro-Harmonix.
This Blitz 50 is in exceptionally clean condition, with only a few minor marks on the orange tolex, and the amp has just been given a checkup by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
