Up for sale, a brand new Riggio Custom Guitars Tango, complete with a G&G Deluxe blonde hardshell case. In a class all his own, Joe Riggio creates some of the most compelling, soulful, and truly inspiring guitars made in this decade or any other. Riggio's Tango is a fastidiously hand-crafted instrument from his one-man shop, with production limited to only a few dozen instruments a year.
With hand-selected tonewoods, proprietary neck carves (mapped on a CNC from actual vintage examples), and vintage-accurate hardware and plastics, this Tango features a Butterscotch Blonde nitro lacquer finish over an ash body, outfitted with a Lollar Charlie Christian neck pickup and Riggio Blackguard bridge pickup.
The bridge pickup offers chewy, authoritative twang with a bouncy, round bass register and sparkling treble cut, while the Charlie Christian has a glassy, smooth sound with exquisite percussive cut and clarity. The pickups compliment each other extremely well, with balanced output between the two coils. This Tango weights 9lbs 5oz, dialed in with low action, accurate intonation, and 10-46 strings.
The one-piece maple neck has a proper '50s U-shaped neck profile carve, measuring .900" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. A hallmark of Riggio’s instruments is the “Real Deal Feel” on the neck. This involves a smooth gradient between high gloss nitro and almost bare maple on the profile, simulating to an exacting degree the way in which contact with the palm naturally ages a finish over decades. This combined with a rolled fretboard edge and extra attention to the end dress on the frets results in a particularly inviting and effortless playing experience. The maple fretboard has 6105 fretwire, and this Tango boasts a modern 9.5" fretboard radius, 25 1/2" scale length, and 1.650" nut width. The nut is hand-carved from bone for optimal note articulation and sustain. The headstock features Riggio's script logo waterslide decal and Kluson-style tuning machines.
Electronics include the Lollar Charlie Christian neck pickup and Riggio Blackguard bridge pickup which meters at a robust 6.8k ohms, in-line with early Broadcaster spec. Hardware comprises a Riggio-embossed bridge base and trio of compensated brass saddles, and the one-ply pickguard has a sheen and edge bevel in keeping with a '50s bakelite guard, complete with simulated pick wear through the lacquer on the treble side. The Butterscotch Blonde pure nitro lacquer finish highlights the grain of the ash body, boasting Riggio's light relic treatment.
A Riggio-branded G&G Deluxe blonde tolex hardshell case with red crushed velvet interior is included.
