Up for sale, a 1960 Martin 00-18 in exceptional condition, crack-free and complete with the original hangtag. This guitar will delight discerning collectors and serious players looking for an expressive, dynamic vintage Martin, and this guitar features a 100% original nitro lacquer finish and stock maple bridge plate. This guitar has received all the service essential to the optimal playability and tone of the instrument, with a professional neck reset, vintage-spec refret, and carved bone nut and saddle.
With a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, this Martin delivers a sound that has ample power and top end articulation. You certainly don’t have to work hard to make the top give up the goods. The instrument has a dry, woody response with incredible projection and a rich, smooth growl sitting just below the exquisite string-to-string balance and clarity one expects with a Martin. There's a round, bouncy quality to the wound strings, and the midrange frequencies are scooped enough to provide extra clarity for the punchy-sounding plain strings. The EQ curve of the instrument is very sympathetic to fingerpicking, and the warmth of the mahogany back and sides keeps everything full and sweet sounding regardless of how hard you strum. The guitar is featherweight at 3lbs 7oz. Professionally setup and freshly restrung with 12-53 strings, this 00-18 is dialed in and ready for stage and studio use.
The mahogany neck has a deep V profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .885" deep at the 1st fret and 1.045" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has been refretted with vintage-spec slender fretwire which shows zero wear, and the neck is very straight, offering easy playability in every register. The hand-carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the scale length is 24.9". The headstock face has a Brazilian rosewood veneer with a clean Martin script and stock open-gear Grover tuners that turn smoothly with clean nickel plating and butterbean buttons.
On the body, the tortoise bound top retains the original rosewood bridge, and the original maple bridge plate has also been retained. The new compensated bone saddle has tons of height, matching the recently reset neck and ensuring optimal playability for decades to come. Matching the binding, the original tortoise pickguard sits flush with the top with virtually no shrinkage, providing a nice contrasts to the ambered spruce. The guitar is crack-free, and the finish is 100% original with no touchups or overspray. There is pick wear extending beyond the tortoise guard and a touch above the soundhole as well, with various minor finish nick and dings, largely relegated to the back and sides. The neck profile exhibits some shallow marks along the profile length from honest use, and nothing deep or distracting to the palm while fretting
A modern hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtag.
