Up for sale, a 1970’s Morris W-40 dreadnought acoustic guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and hangtags. Made at the Terada factory in Japan, this expertly crafted vintage dreadnought has a broad dynamic range and many cosmetic refinements that parallel Martin's D-45 model, with abalone top binding and rosette, hexagonal fretboard inlay, and the Morris name oriented vertically on the headstock face.
The tonewood compliment includes a solid X-braced spruce top, jacaranda rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, and ebony bridge. Lightweight at 4lbs 14oz, the guitar offers bold, broad square-shoulder dreadnought muscle, with good kick in the low end, a balanced, rich sound across all strings, and a sparkling and clear treble register. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Morris W-40 is dialed in with comfortable action and fresh 12-53 phosphor bronze strings.
The mahogany neck has a full V profile carve with more shoulder in the higher registers, measuring .875" deep at the 1st fret and 1.020" at the 9th. The bound rosewood fretboard features hexagonal abalone inlay and pristine original slender fretwire. The guitar plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is a full 25 5/8", and the nut is a hand-carved piece of bone measuring 1 11/16" in width. The bound rosewood headstock veneer features the Morris name inlaid vertically, with stock Morris-branded heavy duty tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
The ebony bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and the original saddle has height for future adjustment. Aesthetic accents include abalone binding framing the top and soundhole rosette, with multi-ply binding and a detailed center purfling strip on the bookmatched rosewood back. The guitar is crack-free, and cosmetic wear on the gloss body finish is limited to light scuffing across the pick path, with light finish scratches and minor marks mostly relegated to the bass side lower bout and back of the body. The neck profile has a pristine satin finish.
The original Morris-branded faux leather gigbag and hangtags are included.
