Up for sale, a 1990 Fender STM-60 Stratocaster Medium Scale electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A very rare model produced during the "Made in Japan" golden age of Fender Japan production, this Stratocaster boasts a more compact 24 3/4" scale length with a sleek two knob control layout and trio of ceramic magnet Hotrod-5S single coil pickups. The alder body, maple neck, and thick slab 22 fret rosewood fretboard provide a balanced, smooth-sounding tonewood platform, while the pickups are particularly punchy and clear, with a snap and authority not afforded more common alnico magnets. The guitar is particularly lightweight at 7lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has an extremely slender (especially for a Fender) and shred-worthy C-shaped neck profile carve, measuring .740" deep at the 1st fret and .815" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard is a nice thick slab and a dark cut of this particular tonewood, retaining the original medium jumbo fretwire which has tons of meat and crown, showing zero wear. The guitar plays easily up the 24 3/4" scale, a true "medium scale" length and a perfect middle ground between Fender's traditional 25 1/2" long scale and their 24" short scale. The guitar plays easily in every register, and the contoured neck heel ensures effortless access to the highest frets. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 9/16", and the headstock retains the original Gotoh tuning machines. And while the headstock has the small "50" yen sticker, signifying a 50,000 yen price when sold new, the neck heel has the STM-60 model designation (the 60 model suffix notes that this model was raised to a 60,000 yen price point in the 1990 model year).

All of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and the trio of ceramic magnet single coils wired to full-size pots which date to March of 1990. The simple two knob design (Master Volume and Tone) features unique molded Fender "F" knobs, one of which is missing its cap. The chrome-plated hardware is positively gleaming, and the unique Endrox-G1 vibrato unit features a full-size trem block and a smooth, quick response. The tremolo cavity cover is also cleanly recessed on this model and flush with the back of the instrument. The gloss Sunburst finish is extremely clean, with wear limited to faint scuffing in the clear coat on the back and a few minor dings on the body parameter. The neck profile has a smooth gloss as well, with just a few tiny nicks on the skunk stripe central to the profile carve.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
