Up for sale, a 1965 Epiphone Caballero model FT-30, 100% original save for an upgraded carved bone saddle. Crafted in Kalamazoo, Michigan under parent company Gibson, the Caballero is identical to the Gibson LG-0 in every way aside from the headstock shape and logo. Less common than its brother the LG-0, this Epiphone delivers classic vintage Gibson/Epiphone USA-made quality. The instrument delivers a bright, sparkling sound with the inherent warmth of mahogany as a tonewood. The bass response is restrained, and it's a very even-sounding instrument for fingerpicking. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Epiphone is dialed in for comfortable action with fresh 12-54 bronze strings.
The mahogany neck has a slender C profile carve at the nut with significantly more shoulder and heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .795" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has pearl dot inlay, retaining the original medium jumbo frets which have good meat and their full factory height, showing only light uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-3 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The nut has a transitional width, measuring just shy of 1 5/8" (1.600"). On the headstock, the original open gear strip tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well with straight shafts and clean white buttons.
The original bolted-on plastic bridge is intact and sits flush with the top, fitted with an upgraded carved and compensated bone saddle. The original blue rectangular label is visible through the soundhole with clear model and serial details. The guitar exhibits one small repaired crack on the back bass side lower bout, and various additional scuffs and minor marks on the body as a whole. There is prominent lacquer checking across the body and some chipping through the nitro gloss on the lower bout body edge, and also some additional spots of cloudy finish adjacent to the tortoise pickguard and bridge. Additionally the back body edge shows light wear, with some prominent scuffing on the bass side of the body on the lower bout adjacent to the tortoise top biding. Wear on the profile carve is limited to lacquer checking and just a couple tiny shallow nicks. This Caballero is a structurally sound and very responsive vintage Epiphone, made alongside the LG-0 in Gibson's Kalamazoo factory!
A gigbag is included.
