1993 Yamaha LA-28E Limited Model Vintage Acoustic Guitar Japan w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1993 Yamaha LA-28E limited edition model vintage acoustic guitar in exceptional condition, complete with the original hardshell case. A hand-crafted instrument made in Japan (as opposed to many of the LA series model which were made in Taiwan), the LA-28 "E" originally came with a pickup installed, yet this particular example has been reverted to strictly acoustic use.

An extremely well-made instrument, the LA-28 features solid tonewoods including a cedar top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck capped with a solid ebony fingerboard. Central to the sound of the LA series is Yamaha's original L-block heel joint which increases the surface area joining the top to the sides, back, and neck, maximizing vibration transmission for brilliant sound and response. The guitar has exquisite projection and sweetness, with a rich, textured sound that retains incredible treble clarity, balanced by a bass register which broad and smooth without being boomy. This LA-28 weighs 4lbs 11oz, dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-53 strings and comfortable action.

The mahogany neck has a medium-depth soft V carve with a smooth semi-gloss finish on the profile, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .905" at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard has snowflake inlays and retains the original slender fretwire which is flawless save for light wear beneath the B and High E strings on frets 1-4. The guitar plays cleanly in every register, and the frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The scale length is a full 25 5/8", and the original nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The bound headstock features a rosewood veneer, upgraded with Yamaha-branded 510 gold-plated tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

The cedar top is a dark ambered shade with an abalone rosette and detailed marquetry framing the top and back. The ebony bridge sits flush with the top, and the original saddle has ample height. The instrument is crack-free and extremely well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to a few tiny nicks on the body as a whole, light pick scuffing across the strum path, and a few faint finish scratches on the back.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included with functional gold latches, original handle, and Yamaha badge on the exterior.
