Up for sale, a 1998 Fender American Vintage '62 Stratocaster in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, case candy, and factory paperwork. This discontinued model features one of Fender's rarest custom colors, Sherwood Green, only available on the American Vintage line from 1998-2000 and produced in sparingly small quantities.

This Strat can chime, sparkle, and quack with the best, delivering an array of classic Fender tones. Whether it's the biting twang of the bridge position, the extra warmth and girth that comes from the neck single coil (ideal for lead work), or the thinned-out quack on the "in between" positions on the factory included five-way switch, this Strat is simply a delight to play. The instrument is very resonant acoustically as well, weighing 8lbs 5oz with an alder body. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've restrung this Strat with 10-46 strings and dialed in the action and intonation for optimal playability.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .915" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a particularly dark cut, retaining a 7 1/4" vintage-spec Fender radius, and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The original slender vintage-style frets are flawless with perfectly rounded crowns and their full factory height. The guitar plays easily in every register, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. On the headstock, the Fender Stratocaster waterslide decal is flawless, and the Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The neck heel is pencil dated 7-16-98, and the neck heel and pocket have date stamps from 1998 as well.

The electronics include the original trio of 57/62 black bobbin Fender pickups with beveled alnico pole pieces and cloth-covered leads, wired to original CTS pots which date to the 21st week of '98. The mint green pickguard shows some scuffing on the treble side of the strum path, while the aged plastic parts are near mint. The chrome hardware shines like new, including the neck plate with V-prefix serial number. The vibrato works very smoothly with three springs and responds quickly and reliably for quick shimmies and deeper dives.

The gloss nitro lacquer Sherwood Green finish is exceedingly clean, with wear limited to a couple tiny nicks and exceedingly faint finish scratches on body. The nitro lacquer gloss on the neck profile has also been brought down to a silky semi-gloss that feels particularly great on the palm with none of the stickiness that can accompany new nitro.

The original brown tolex G&G Deluxe hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtags, case candy, and three-way switch.
