Up for sale, a 2018 Fender Custom Shop '59 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic in near mint condition and in perfect working order. This limited run Custom Shop model comes complete with the original hangtags, COA, and brown tolex G&G hardshell case.
The Time Machine series of Custom Shop instruments endeavors to deliver a guitar that replicates the exact specifications, tonal response, and feel of its forbearers, and this Journeyman Relic example features factory aging for a well-loved, played-in feel. Lively and resonant at 7lbs 15oz, the guitar has an alder body, one-piece riff sawn maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. Tonally, there's plenty to be excited about here, with the rich detail, chime, and twang associated with the Jazzmaster single coil pickups, wound to original spec with flat alnico pole pieces and black fiber bobbins. While the bridge pickup is spanky with a touch of growl, the neck pickup has more girth and roundness without sacrificing clarity. Switch to the Rhythm Circuit on the bass side body horn and the neck pickup achieves even more thickness and low end power, perfect for singing leads on a small overdriven tube amp or for adding body to your favorite buzzsaw fuzz pedal. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazzmaster is dialed in with optimal action, spot-on intonation, and 10-46 strings.
The neck has a quintessential slender C profile carve, gaining slightly rounder, fuller shoulders as you travel up the neck with rolled fretboard edges for a particularly comfortable and inviting feel. The profile measures .820" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. True to vintage-spec in every respect, the guitar features a 7 1/4" fretboard radius on the AAA Indian rosewood slab fretboard, with slender fretwire which shows just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. The guitar plays effortlessly in every register with notes that ring out clearly up the straight neck. The nut measures just a hair over 1 5/8" in width (1.650"). On the headstock, the Kluson-style Fender-branded single line tuners turns smoothly and hold pitch well, and the natural nitro gloss-finished headstock face is topped off with a Pre-CBS spec "spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo.
All of the electronics function flawlessly, and the guitar has been upgraded from stock with an aged gold anodized aluminum pickguard with the correct thickness, graining, and 13 hole pattern to match the original tortoise pickguard (also included). The vibrato has a smooth and responsive feel for quick surfy warbles and dives. In terms of cosmetic wear, the guitar has been sparingly played since new, the factory relic treatment is quite restrained, and the neck profile is flawless.
The original brown tolex G&G hardshell case is included, along with the COA, build sheet, and hangtags.
