Up for sale, a 1984 Ibanez Roadstar II RB824 vintage electric bass guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted at the Fujigen factory in Japan, the Roadster is the bolt-on sibling to the venerable Musician line, with the same top quality construction and components. This RB824 features the tried and true tonewood combination of an alder body and maple neck paired with a stock set of Ibanez Super J6 humbuckers. Each pickup has 16 pole pieces and provides a full and balanced response with the ability to be individually split for single coil operation via the Tri-Sound mini toggle switches. The bass weighs 8lbs 12oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has medium C profile carve at the nut, with more shoulder and heft as you travel up the thick rosewood slab fretboard, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The fretboard features dot inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets retain their full factory height and show virtually no wear, playing cleanly up the 34" scale which boasts a 24 fret range. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. The nut measures 1 9/16” in width, carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The matching headstock features a gold Roadster truss rod cover, Ibanez logo, and set of Ibanez Smooth Tuner II machine heads that live up to their name.
On the body, the electronics work as they should with a center detent pickup Blend knob, Master Volume, Master Tone, and pair of Tri Sound mini toggle switches. The trio of original gold speed knobs are intact with grippy exteriors, and the heavy duty top-loader bridge shows just a touch of patina on the gold plating. The carved, contoured body is finished in gloss Candy Apple Red, and cosmetic wear includes finish chips and dings on the body parameter, particularly localized on the back lower bout body edge, and just a few small nicks and finish scratches on the back of the bass-side body horn. The top is notably clean, and the neck profile is flawless.
