Up for sale, a 2001 Fender American Vintage '62 Stratocaster reissue electric guitar in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags and case candy. This discontinued model is absolutely stunning in its presentation with an uncommonly figured maple neck, perfect frets and barely a scratch on it, featuring one of Fender's classic custom colors, Ocean Turquoise Metallic.
This Strat can chime, sparkle, and quack with the best, delivering an array of classic Fender tones. Whether it's the biting twang of the bridge position, the extra warmth and girth that comes from the neck single coil (ideal for solos), or the thinned-out quack in the "in-between" settings on the switch, this Strat is simply a delight to play. The instrument is very resonant acoustically as well, weighing 7lbs 13oz with an alder body. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've restrung this Strat with 10-46 strings and dialed in the action and intonation for optimal playability.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and a bit more heft and shoulder in the higher registers, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The ambered gloss nitro on the profile is flawless, highlighting the dimensional curly flame figuring that extends the length of the neck. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut with a 7 1/4" radius and flawless slender fretwire. The guitar plays effortlessly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. On the headstock, the Fender Stratocaster waterslide decal is perfect, and the Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The neck heel is pencil dated 10-1-01, and the heel and pocket retain all the requisite factory stamps and markings.
The stock electronics function flawlessly with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date back to the 40th week of 2000. The masking tape on the pickguard shield is also hand-dated 9-21-01. The plastic parts are near mint (including the tremolo coverplate which still retains the factory sticker), and the chrome hardware is positively gleaming. The vibrato works very smoothly with three springs and responds quickly and reliably for quick shimmies and deeper dives. The V prefix serial number is also present on the chrome neck plate.
The gloss nitro lacquer Ocean Turquoise Metallic finish is the most pristine example we've ever seen from the American Vintage production run and time capsule clean. The case does have a smokey odor (currently being aired out), which dissipates from the instrument once it's been uncased for a period of time.
The original brown tolex Fender-branded G&G hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the instrument, along with the full compliment of original hangtags and case candy.
