Up for sale, a 1980’s Morris W-35 acoustic guitar in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Made at the Terada factory in Japan, this expertly crafted vintage dreadnought has a rich tonal response and tonewood compliment that parallels Martin's D-28 model, with additional cosmetic refinements including abalone top binding and rosette, and the Morris name inlaid and oriented vertically on the bound rosewood headstock veneer.
The guitar features a solid X-braced spruce top, straight-grained rosewood back and sides, a mahogany neck, dark rosewood fretboard, and rosewood bridge. Weighing 4lbs 12oz, the guitar offers a balanced, rich sound across all strings, with bold low end, a singing midrange character, and a defined treble register that's sweet and snappy without being strident. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Morris W-35 is dialed in with comfortable action and fresh 12-53 phosphor bronze strings.
The mahogany neck has a medium soft V profile carve that measures .840" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 9th. The bound rosewood fretboard is an extremely dark, tight-grained cut, featuring dot inlay and stock slender vintage-style fretwire. Fretwear is limited to is light wear beneath the B and E strings on the crowns of frets 1-3, with virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is a full 25 5/8", and the nut is a hand-carved piece of bone measuring 1 11/16" in width. The bound rosewood headstock veneer features the Morris name inlaid vertically, and the stock Morris-branded heavy duty tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
The rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and the original saddle has good height for future adjustment. Aesthetic accents include abalone binding framing the top and soundhole rosette, with multi-ply binding and a detailed center purfling strip on the bookmatched rosewood back. The guitar is crack-free, and cosmetic wear is limited to pick scuffing across the tortoise shell guard, a stray tiny mark on the top bass side lower bout, and light marks on the back headstock edge. The neck profile has a pristine smooth gloss finish.
The original black tolex hardshell case with aluminum trim and gold interior is included.
