Up for sale, a 1979 Fender Bassman 10 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Comparable to the Bassman 50 head in terms of power and design, the Bassman 10 has the classic, punchy sound of the earlier Silverface era Bassman models, with good muscle and headroom before pushing into smooth tube overdrive at around 4 on the Volume dial. The channels are individually voiced (Bass/Normal and Bass/Studio), with the first channel having a Deep switch and overall darker tonal character with more limited EQ sweep, while the second channel covers a much wider frequency range in terms of EQ and also has the added bonus of a Midrange knob. The amp delivers bold, chiming Fender cleans, offering the perfect balanced platform for an array of effects pedals, voiced through an upgraded quad of modern speakers.
The circuit is extremely original, with only a couple component values substituted as needed to ensure the amp is functioning as intended. The original power supply caps are all original too and still viable. The transformer compliment includes the original power transformer and a genuine vintage Fender output transformer of the correct size and design that actually dates earlier than the amplifier, with a date code on the bell from the 24th week of '75. Visible codes on the CTS pots date to the 42nd week of '78. The speaker quad has been substituted for modern 10" speakers which represent a notable upgrade on the originals in terms of construction, reliability, and wattage handling. The tube compliment includes a matched pair of properly biased Groove Tubes 6L6GC power tubes.
Cosmetically, the amp retains its original smooth black tolex as well as the stock silver sparkle grillcloth with faded orange stripe. The amp shows signs of gigging use, with a few bald corners on the enclosure and wear through the tolex on the front edges of the enclosure adjacent to the faceplate and upper third of the grillcloth. All of the original hardware is intact including the casters, corners, handle caps, and chassis straps, and the Silverface faceplate is quite clean, retaining original witch hat knobs and boasting bold turquoise text.
