Up for sale, a 2015 Gibson Limited Edition SGS3 model in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and factory paperwork. A visually stunning and tonally compelling spin on the SG Standard platform, this triple pickup iteration features traditional all mahogany body/neck construction with a bound slab rosewood fingerboard. The guitar has the natural warm and wooly sound associated with mahogany, with ideal treble articulation channeled through the trio of original Gibson '57 Classic PAF humbuckers.
Wax potted with Alnico II magnets, the '57 Classic PAFs offer an array of bold voicings, and each pickup has its own dedicated Volume knob for optimal tonal shading and variety between the humbucker trio. The bridge pickup has great growl and midrange bark, while the neck pickup is girthy and thick while still retaining enough clarity and definition to pair with your favorite fuzz box without getting muddy. Featherweight at 7lbs 2oz, we've had this SG dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, spot-on intonation, and 10-46 strings.
The mahogany neck has Gibson's SlimTaper C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and an easy-playing feel, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .910" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has been refretted with slender vintage-style fretwire which has plenty of height and crown, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale length with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The headstock features Gibson Deluxe gold-plated tuning machines with lightly greened keystone buttons.
All of the electronics function as intended, with original Gibson-embossed pots and untouched solder. The control array features a three-way pickup selector toggle, individual Volume knobs for each pickup, and a Master Tone control. Each of the '57 Classic humbuckers retains its original PAF sticker and additional dated sticker on the baseplates. The stickers date to late 2014, while this model saw release in 2015, consistent with the serial number and limited edition markings on the back of the headstock.
The gold hardware is notably clean, with just a dusting of patina on the pickup covers and light wear through the plating on the bass-side edge of the Nashville bridge. The Sideways Vibrola operates vertically and engages easily for subtle warbles and textural shimmers. The gloss Ebony nitro lacquer finish is extremely sleek, exhibiting some light finish scratches in the clear coat and minor marks across the back, with more restrained wear on top. The neck profile gloss is free of palm wear with just a few tiny shallow marks on the profile length.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included, along with all of the original factory paperwork.
