Up for sale, a late 1960s Ampeg B-25 tube amp head, retrofitted in a custom Fliptops 2x10 speaker cabinet. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg at their Linden, NJ factory and just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, the amp is powered by a matched pair of properly biased Tung Sol 7027 power tubes. A tonal middle ground between the B-15N and V-4, the B-25 pushes 55 all-tube watts and has ideal muscle and headroom for either guitar or bass, with a dedicated two channel design and Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo rocker switches for each channel.
The original transformers are both present, and the circuit has been recapped as needed, with a full rebuild of the power supply featuring Sprague Atoms and cleanly sleeved resistors. The 16 ohm speaker jack has been reconfigured on the back of the chassis, and a Standby switch has been added to the amp's face. Along with the Tung Sol 7027 power tubes, the amp features a vintage 5AR4 rectifier and a combination of modern and vintage valves in the preamp.
The custom 2x10 enclosure is fitted with a pair of Eminence ceramic magnet 8ohm speakers wired in series for the correct 16ohm load. These speakers are punchy and efficient, handling low frequencies well and making this combo a viable choice for either guitar or bass. The cabinet features smooth black tolex and correct blue Ampeg grillcloth. Wear on the enclosure is very minimal, while the silkscreen graphics on the chassis show moderate wear, and the amp is fitted with a combination of original and replacement knobs.
