Up for sale, a 1994 Fender Stratocaster '57 vintage reissue electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early example produced by Fender Japan at the famed Fujigen factory and sold only within Japan, the ST57G-65 model was a rare, upscale version with factory-installed gold hardware, outfitted with Fender USA-made black bobbin pickups. This alder-bodied Strat is an incredibly well-made instrument, with the attention to detail and precise fit and finish work that has made the early Fender Japan instruments sought after by studio players and serious collectors alike.
Tonally, this guitar easily channels the essence of the best '50s Strats, and the pickup compliment includes Fender's 57/62 single coils in the neck and middle positions, and a Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s bridge pickup. All pickups feature staggered alnico magnets and black bobbin flatwork, and the Fat 50s pickup delivers a chewy, chiming sound that is both cutting and big, with presence, power and sparkle. The "in-between" settings on the five-way blade pickup selector switch have that quintessential Strat quack, and the neck pickup has girth and warmth, while still having a balanced EQ curve and plenty of top end snap, due largely in part to the maple/alder construction of the instrument. The guitar weighs 7lbs 14oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and low action.
The maple neck has a medium C profile carve with big, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The original slender frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar conforms to traditional specifications with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, 25 1/2" scale length, and nut width of 1 5/8". On the headstock, the guitar features the proper '50s-style logo and Kluson-style Gotoh tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Made in Japan" text and N-prefix serial number is present above the four-bolt neck plate
All of the electronics function as intended, with the trio of USA-made Fender pickups wired to an upgraded USA-made five-way pickup selector switch. All body routes are original and untouched, and all original rare gold-plated hardware is present, and all of the stock plastic parts are intact as well including a uniformly aged trio of pickup covers. The vibrato responds smoothly with a full-size trem block and three springs, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. Cosmetic wear includes a few faint finish scratches on top behind the bridge, finish scuffs and minor marks across the back, a very small spot of light buckle rash between the neck plate and tremolo cavity, and a few nicks and scuffs on the lower bout body edge. The ambered gloss neck profile finish is flawless.
A Fender-branded gigbag is included.
