Up for sale, a 2019 Gretsch G6120T-DCH-LTD '59 Nashville Chet Atkins hollowbody electric guitar in near mint condition and perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, COA, and hangtags. This G6120T is a stunning, limited edition spin of the instrument that has defined the Gretsch sound for twang, Western Swing, Rockabilly, and all manner of other genres and niches, maintaining the 6120's reputation as one of the most resonant, lively, and stunningly cool sounding instruments ever made.
Some of the finer points of this Gretsch include the Dark Cherry Stain gloss nitro lacquer finished all-maple hollow body with bound oversized F holes, trestle bracing, a V neck profile carve, bound ebony fingerboard with Neo-Classic "thumbnail" inlays, dark tortoise embossed Nashville pickguard, nickel hardware, Bigsby B6CBVF vibrato tailpiece, and Ray Butts TV Jones Filter'Tron pickups.
Faithfully replicating the original Filter'Tron, invented by Ray Butts and originally called the "Ful-Fidelity," this pickup was designed according to Ray's personal notes and designs paired with TV Jones' extensive, multi-decade analysis of original Filter'Tron pickups. Un-potted, the Ray Butts Filter'Tron offers tighter bass response and slightly more treble detail than a TV Classic. The guitar has a full, percussive, articulate voice when strummed acoustically that translates well through the Filter'Tron pickups. The guitar weighs 7lbs 6oz. We've had this Gretsch professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action, fresh 11-50 roundwound strings, and solid intonation.
The maple neck has a soft V profile carve, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 12th. The guitar features a 12" radius ebony fretboard and neo-classic thumbnail pearl inlays, and the vintage-width fretwire has good meat and height with perfectly rounded crowns. The aluminum nut measures 1 11/16" in width and the headstock boasts an inlaid pearloid Gretsch logo and steer head, as well as Grover Sta-Tite open-gear tuners.
All of the electronics work as they should with the Ray Butts Filter'Trons wired to three-way pickup selector, three-way Tone switch, Master Volume control, and individual pickup Volumes. The pinned roller bridge works well with a Bigsby B6CBVF vibrato tailpiece for surfy warbles and dives, and this Bigsby iteration features a '50s-style elegantly shaped aluminum arm. Cosmetic wear is limited to light pick scuffing across the guard and only a couple exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the Deep Cherry Stain nitro lacquer gloss. While we'll still call this guitar "near mint" as it has been owned and lightly played, it's simply showroom clean and a stunning example of one of Gretsch's most influential and enduring models.
The original hardshell case is included along with the COA and hangtags.
