Up for sale, a 2014 Fender Stratocaster '72 vintage reissue model ST72 in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and Fender-branded gigbag. With a scalloped rosewood fretboard and distinctive tuxedo cosmetics, this Strat certainly looks the part of the Ritchie Blackmore model.
The guitar has been upgraded with a pair of USA-made Lace Sensor Silver pickups in the neck and bridge positions, retaining the original ceramic magnet single coil in the middle. The Silver iteration of the Lace Sensor design delivers fat 70's single coil sounds with increased output and more midrange content. The Lace Sensor family has a unique radiant Field Barrier system that surrounds both the coil and magnets, reducing 60-cycle hum. The patented Lace Micro Combs replace traditional bobbins, yielding a wider tonal range and better string balance than traditional pickups. The Lace pickups compliment the crystalline snap and punch of the ceramic magnet middle pickup, and the guitar offers a broad range of tonalities on the five-way pickup selector switch. Well balanced on a strap at 7lbs 5oz, we've had this Strat professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with low action, accurate intonation, and 10-46 strings.
The maple neck has a moderately chunky C shaped profile carve with good shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges. The fretboard has uniform shallow scalloping, and the original slender frets show just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the guitar plays cleanly in every register. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the large headstock has a '70s block logo and Gotoh chrome tuners.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the trio of single coils wired to the stock Japanese harness. The guitar has a full-size tremolo block too for optimal sustain and clarity, and the vibrato responds effortlessly for deep dives and expressive warbles, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. The chrome plating on the bridge base and jack cup is positively gleaming, and the plastic parts are near mint. The guitar retains its "Made in Japan" text and JD14-prefix serial just above the three-bolt neck plate. The Olympic White finish is a very vintage-correct shade, showing only a few extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the back between the neck plate and tremolo cover, as well as one small ding on the treble-side lower bout edge.
Essentially a Ritchie Blackmore reissue in all but name, this "Made in Japan" Strat is a great looking, no-nonsense powerhouse with a scalloped fretboard made for shred and plenty of tonal heft.
The original Fender-branded gigbag and hangtags are included.
