Up for sale, a 1982 OMI Dobro model 60DS in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A very nice USA-made example, this single cone resonator features a spider bridge design with plenty of bark, and a big, bold tone. The all maple construction gives the instrument a distinct top end and note attack, and the instrument has a smooth bark without being overly bright on its own merits, while a metal or glass slide can add the appropriate extra top end snap and detail to taste. There’s also a richness to the sound not always present with maple, and the tonal response is quite articulate. The Dobro weighs only 6lbs 4oz and has been restrung with 12-53 bronze strings.
The squareneck design is capped with a fretted mahogany fingerboard with 12 frets clear of the body, a 24 1/2" scale length and 1 13/16" wide nut. On the headstock, the original open-gear strip tuners turn smoothly, and the face of the headstock features the flawless original Dobro waterslide decal. The serial number is stamped on the top of the peghead as well.
The fan pattern coverplate boasts clean chrome plating, along with the trapeze tailpiece, and the dark Tobacco Sunburst finish on the body is very vibrant and warm with great saturation. This is a crack-free instrument which has been honestly played, exhibiting prominent checking central to the back, and some very mild wear central to the back as well from the guitar laying on a strap. There are finish scratches primarily localized on the bass-side of the back and also below the heel on the upper bout, very faint forearm wear on the bass-side edge on top, and a few tiny nicks on the edges of the square neck. On the treble side of the back there is wear through the nitro gloss from exposure to heat, mostly in the black of the Sunburst yet quite visible to the naked eye.
A chipboard case is included.
