Up for sale, a 2013 Fender American Vintage '65 Stratocaster in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and brown tolex G&G Deluxe hardshell case. A limited run model model produced during the already sparingly short production run of the '65 American Vintage instruments, this Strat is an exquisitely well-made guitar, very faithful to its vintage forbearers. This particular Strat features a "Flash Coat" nitro lacquer Shoreline Gold finish complete with matching headstock, a rebranding of the Thin Skin concept in that the finish is simply pure, thin nitro without a poly sealer coat, ensuring optimal acoustic resonance.
This Strat can chime, sparkle, and quack with the best, delivering an array of classic Fender tones, loaded with Fender's Pure Vintage '65 gray bobbin single coils. The '65 pickups feature staggered alnico V poles and wax potting, offering a clear, smooth range of tonalities with an extremely articulate, shimmering response and a broad tonal palette. Whether it's the biting twang of the bridge position, the extra warmth and girth that comes from the neck single coil (ideal for lead work), or the thinned-out quack on the "in-between" positions on the five-way switch, this Strat is extremely lively and distinct in every pickup position. This alder-bodied Strat weighs 8lbs 5oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've restrung this Strat with 10-46 strings and dialed in the action and intonation for optimal playability.
The maple neck has what Fender describes as a "Mid-60s C" profile carve, with full, inviting shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The thick Indian rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius, and the original carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The original slender frets retain their full factory height and are nigh flawless, playing easily up the 25 1/2" scale. The neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. On the Shoreline Gold headstock, the Fender Stratocaster "transitional" waterslide decal is present and perfect, and the Kluson-style single line Fender tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The neck heel is stamped June, 2013, and all of the original factory stamps are present on the neck pocket and heel.
The electronics include the original trio of Pure Vintage '65 gray bobbin Fender pickups with staggered alnico pole pieces and cloth-covered leads, wired to original CTS pots. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, including the four-bolt neck plate with V-prefix serial number, and the plastic parts are clean as can be. The vibrato is currently setup with three springs, actuating easily for warbles and expressive dives. The Shoreline Gold "flash coat" nitro lacquer finish is exceedingly well-kept, exhibiting a few tiny finish chips on the back lower bout body edge, a few pinhead-sized nicks on top behind the bridge, and light pick scuffing on the treble side of the guard. There is also subtle "shattered glass" lacquer checking in the nitro lacquer across the body. The neck profile gloss is flawless.
The original brown tolex Fender G&G hardshell case is included, along with a few hangtags.
