Up for sale, a 1991 Ibanez 540 SFM electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Ibanez gigbag. Expertly crafted at the famed Fujigen factory in Japan, this sleek S Series model features a flame maple top and back over a mahogany body, and a one-piece maple neck with a Wizard profile carve. The stock IBZ USA pickups were designed by Ibanez in conjunction with DiMarzio and wound in the USA. The HSS configuration includes an IBZ F2 bridge position humbucker and IBZ C2 noiseless stacked single coils at the neck and middle positions. Combined with the five-way switching system, the pickup array delivers a range of clear, powerful tonalities, and the F2 humbucker features a ceramic magnet design for a powerful, cutting sound that stays tight with heavy distortion. The stacked C2 single coils are hum-cancelling and wound to keep pace with the searing bridge pickup. Weighing 7lbs, this Ibanez 540 SFM has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, fast action, and spot-on intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a notably slender C-shaped Wizard profile carve, fast and effortless with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .695” deep at the 1st fret and .800” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features dot inlay, a “Custom Made” inlay at the 21st fret, and stock jumbo fretwire. The frets have ample meat with their full factory height, with a touch of faint wear on the 1st fret, extending exclusively beneath the plain strings to fret 5, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays effortlessly up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted truss rod and 17“ fretboard radius. The scale length is a full 25 1/2“, and the Top-Lok III locking nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. The headstock features a silver Ibanez logo and black Gotoh tuning machines. On the back of the headstock, the original serial number is present with the correct sequence for Fujigen factory production.
On the body, all of the electronics function as intended, with a five-way blade selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls for the HSS pickup array. All of the stock hardware is present, including the black chrome beehive knobs with notable patina, and locking Lo-Pro Edge tremolo. The recessed Floyd Rose Licensed tremolo works in harmony with the locking nut for the most radical vibrato action while staying perfectly in tune. The gloss Transparent Turquoise finish highlights the bookmatched straight tiger flame maple on the top and back, with figuring extending to the edges of the burst. Cosmetic wear is limited scuffing on the treble side of the pick path, a few shallow finish scratches on top, and some light scuffs and scratches concentrated on the back lower bout body edge. The neck profile is quite clean, with just a few faint marks in the smooth semi-gloss finish that are not distracting to the palm, and lovely flame figuring in the maple.
The original Ibanez fitted faux leather gigbag is included.
