Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and loaded with a pair of Lollar Imperial PAFs. The carved maple cap on this upper tiered "Plus" iteration of the Standard is an absolute knock-out, with extremely deep curly flame to the treble side of the bridge and slightly straighter broad tiger flame on the bass side. The figuring is uniform enough to present as properly bookmatched (including the arching grain in the maple that telegraphs the shape of the lower bout), yet quite varied in its presentation.
Weighing 8lbs 13oz, this Les Paul is exceedingly lightweight for a Standard of this era, yet still plenty punchy and round-sounding, offering exquisite sustain. The un-chambered mahogany body also lends this Standard a certain smooth growl and warmth, balanced by the treble cut and note attack of the carved maple cap. The Lollar Imperial humbuckers are universally lauded PAF-style boutique pickups which produce an airy top end, balanced midrange character, and a tight bass response, with the harmonically complex sound and articulate, dynamic qualities of the venerable PAF design. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard Plus is setup with 10-46 strings, low action, and solid intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C carve with a fast, effortless feel and a hair more roundness and shoulder as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the stock frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The frets are flawless, playing cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover, and the original bolt bushing Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with greened keystone buttons are intact too.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the Lollar Imperial humbucker pair is wired to an RS Guitarworks harness with tightly spec'd CTS pots and premium tone caps. The model and finish factory markings are present in the pickup cavities, noting both the Plus top iteration and the Heritage Cherry Sunburst nitro lacquer finish. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming, and all of the original plastic parts are present including the amber speed knobs, cream pickup rings, and switch surround. The gloss Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish is saturated and warm, with a deeply ambered center and Cherry edges.
Cosmetic wear is limited to some small dings on top primarily behind the bridge and on the edges of the lower bout adjacent to the binding, and light pick scuffing across the strum path. There are some scattered faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss across the back and a few minor marks, but certainly shy of “buckle rash.” The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss, free of palm wear with only a few very shallow marks on the neck profile gloss and a touch of checking at the fret nibs on the cream neck binding.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included.
