Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Duo Sonic in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and bridge cover. This Pre-CBS short scale Fender model features the original three-tone Sunburst finish and a thick slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard. With a poplar body and one-piece maple neck, this guitar has plenty of sparkle and twang on tap via the pair of original black bobbin single coil pickups. These pickups are essentially wound identical to a '62 Strat pickup, with the only difference being a flat pole piece design and smooth brown covers. Both pickups have strong output and exceptional tone, with the bouncy, sparkling sound that's sweet and lively, offering a smooth midrange character and focused bass register clarity. Weighing 6lbs 6oz, this guitar is very easy on the back, and has a clear, chiming acoustic tone that's surprisingly resonant and authoritative. We've had this Duo Sonic professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with fresh 11-50 strings and slinky action.

The one-piece maple neck has a slender and fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with appreciable heft and roundness as you travel up the fingerboard, capped with an extremely dark and tight-grained Brazilian rosewood slab fretboard. The profile is notably clean with sparingly little ambering of the original gloss lacquer, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. With a scale length of 22 1/2", this is a true short scale instrument, perfect for players with smaller hands or those looking to comfortably execute chord extensions that might otherwise be out of reach. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports clay dot inlays and original slender fretwire that's remarkably clean, retaining its full factory height. The frets show light wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, extending even more faintly beneath the plain strings until fret 6, with virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The original nut measures 1 1/2" in width. On the headstock, the original single line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines are present and exceptionally clean, and the original "Fender - Duo Sonic" waterslide decal is practically perfect.

All of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and original black bobbin pickups which retain their original windings. The wiring harness features original Stackpole pots that date to the 18th week of '62, along with the original ceramic disc tone cap. All of the original hardware and plastic parts are accounted for including the knurled chrome knobs, stock bridge, immaculate chrome neck plate, single-ply white pickguard and accompanying aluminum pickguard shield, and brown pickup covers. Even the original chrome-plated bridge cover is intact and positively gleaming. Unique in its construction, this bridge cover has a staggered base to accommodate for the height of the pickguard.

The nitro lacquer Sunburst finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, with some scattered small finish chips on the lower bout edge and on the parameter of the slab body. There is a small spot of light, targeted buckle rash central to the back and some additional finish scratches and minor marks across the back and on top behind the bridge. The body also exhibits some requisite pick scuffing across the strum path, extending above the pickguard on the bass-side body horn. The neck profile retains its smooth and sparingly ambered nitro gloss, highlighting light figuring in the maple along the profile length, with wear limited to light palm wear through the gloss on the treble side shoulder of the neck profile carve from frets 1-7.

The original tan hardshell case with brown leather ends is included. This case is equally as well-kept as the guitar on its exterior, and all three original latches are intact and functional, along with the original handle.
