Up for sale, a 2013 History GH-BJ4A/M Jazz Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Crafted exclusively for the Japanese market at the renowned Fujigen Gakki factory and only sold at the Shimamura chain of music shops, this History bass is rarely seen outside its country of origin. The bass is constructed with American pioneer-era old growth “Heritage Wood” salvaged from the bottoms of lakes, offering unmatched integrity and tone. With a select ash body and hard maple neck, this J Bass has a powerful punch and rich rumble that translates well through the stock HBJ-4 pickups. Loaded with an Aguilar OBP-3SK/PP preamp with a separate push/pull Mid pot, stacked Treble/Bass pot, and a mini-toggle switch to engage the active electronics, the tonal options are vast. The bass offers broad thump, articulate upper midrange burp and growl, and a clear treble register benefitting from the inherent note attack and definition of maple and ash. Weighing 9lbs 1oz, this History bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C shaped profile with lightly rolled fretboard edges, filling out with more shoulder and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The maple fretboard features abalone dot inlay and flawless medium jumbo fretwire, and the bass plays well in all registers up the straight neck, reinforced with titanium for exceptional stability. The scale length is a full 34”, and the stock bone nut has a traditional slender and easily navigable 1 1/2" Jazz Bass width. The headstock face features an abalone History script logo, and the nickel tuning machines with clover buttons turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, the electronics work as they should, with dedicated Volume controls for each pickup, and an active Aguilar OBP-3SK/PP preamp. The bridge is a top loader design, and the nickel hardware includes the quartet of knurled knobs, side jack, and Fender-style strap buttons. Cosmetic wear is limited to thumb scuffing at the bass side of the middle pickup on the black three-ply pickguard. There's barely a scratch on the Natural, lightly ambered gloss finish, and the neck profile is equally clean with light figuring along the profile length.
The original black elephant tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included.
