Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A "Crafted in Japan" exclusive model not designed for export, this particular Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically, with a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and Dolphin Grey metallic finish with matching headstock. While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass, providing both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. This bass is well-balanced on a strap and weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 45-100 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a very slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve at the nut with modest shoulder, gaining bit more roundness and heft in the higher registers, measuring .790" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and slender vintage-style frets that show wear on the fret crowns on frets 1-7, primarily beneath the A and D strings. The bass plays effortlessly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. Conforming to traditional Jazz Bass specifications, this Aerodyne features a 34" scale length and easily navigable 1 1/2" nut width. The matching Dolphin Grey headstock features chrome clover button tuning machines that turn very smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control with chrome, Strat-style knobs. The chrome hardware shows patina on the control plate and Strat-style metal knobs, and the bass exhibits some honest playwear, with buckle rash on the back, one finish chip on the treble-side lower bout edge and some minor dings and marks both on the back and adjacent to the control plate on top. There is an extra strap button hole on the back of the bass-side body horn as well. The satin neck finish shows palm wear through the finish on the edges of the profile, with a few scattered marks along the profile length, yet nothing distracting to the palm while fretting.
A gigbag is included.
