Up for sale, a 2014 Greco Phoenix PXB-25th Anniversary reissue model in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtag, and factory paperwork. A very limited and long ago discontinued model, this Japanese-made Greco features an ash body with a spalted maple top, paired with a three-piece maple neck bolted seamlessly to the body with heel-less construction. Via the Pro Duce P and J pickup pair, the tone is broad and silky, with more traditional thump from the P-style pickup, and a sweet growl and articulate cut from the J pickup. A Pickup Balancer center detent pot allows for a smooth gradient between the two pickups, and active preamp circuitry can be engaged via the two-way mini toggle, offering a bit more oomph and midrange push when engaged. Very lightweight at 7lbs 13oz, we've had this Greco dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action, spot-on intonation, and fresh 45-100 roundwound strings.
The three-piece maple neck has light broad flame figuring on the outer two thirds, with a smooth semi-gloss finish that feels great on the palm. The neck has a medium C profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, offering a particularly full-feeling shape by the 9th fret and beyond. The thick Pau Ferro fretboard has abalone dot inlays and a full 25 fret range, retaining the original slender fretwire which has its full factory height, well-rounded crowns, and just a touch of wear on frets 1-2. The scale length measures a full 34", and the 1 1/2" wide nut is solid brass, ensuring ideal top end response and note attack. The headstock face has a spalted maple veneer with script Greco text and original Phoenix truss rod cover. A small "Made in Japan" sticker is present on the back of the headstock, and the original gold tuners turn very smoothly.
The electronics function as intended, and the Pro Duce pickup pair is governed by the center detent Pickup Balancer pot, with Master Volume and Tone knobs and a two-way mini toggle to engage the active circuitry, powered by a 9v battery. The heavy-duty gold-plated bridge is inset into the body, and paired with the string through body construction, the natural acoustic sound of the bass is particularly resonant and rewarding. The Phoenix body shape has very fluid rounded lines, with a bit of extra contouring on the inside edge of the treble side body horn for easy access to the highest frets. The Honey Roast gloss finish is in great shape, with wear limited to a couple tiny nicks on the headstock edges, and a few minor marks and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole, primarily on the contoured neck heel.
The original black tolex hardshell case with plush form-fit interior is included, along with the original hangtags and factory paperwork.
