Up for sale, a 2016 Gibson Custom Shop J-45 Tonewood limited edition dreadnought acoustic guitar in near mint, 100% original condition, fitted from the factory with an L.R. Baggs Element active pickup and complete with the original hardshell case, COA, and factory paperwork. Limited to 75 guitars worldwide, the Tonewood edition boasts solid Indian rosewood back and sides paired with a solid Engelmann spruce top with scalloped X bracing. And with a one-piece mahogany neck with a dovetail joint and hot hide glue neck set, this J-45 is anything but modern, carefully utilizing traditional materials and building techniques for a J-45 tonal profile that offers a warm and full sound with healthy projection. This J-45 delivers a bold tone with notable punch and treble cut, offering the definition and muscle of a rosewood back/sides dreadnought, but also a bass frequency growl and smoothness indicative of Gibson’s soft shoulder body shape. The string-to-string definition is exquisite and the guitar has a clear, even-sound which lends itself to fingerpicking. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this J-45 with fresh 12-53 bronze strings and comfortable action.
The one-piece mahogany neck has Gibson's Slim Taper neck profile, essentially a modestly slender C carve with lightly rolled edges on the slab rosewood fretboard, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 9th. Th original slender frets are flawless, and the guitar plays easily up the 24 3/4" scale. The Tusq nut is original, measuring a full 1 3/4" in width, providing ideal spacing for fingerpicking. The headstock features a Limited truss rod cover, Custom Shop badge, and original gold-plated Grover open-gear tuning machines that turn very smoothly with butterbean buttons.
The body features a rosewood bridge with tall compensated saddle, as well as a tortoise pickguard and L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickup assembly. This active pickup features a 9V battery mounted to the heel block, 1/4" endpin jack, and mini Volume and Tone wheels mounted to the inside edge of the soundhole. An undersaddle transducer, the Element has a lively and open sound with a delicate high end and clear, rich bass. The gloss nitro lacquer finish is extremely clean, with wear limited to just a couple exceedingly faint scuffs in the clear coat of the gloss central to the back, and an extremely faint shadow of a previously removed sticker behind the bridge on top. The neck profile is flawless. Sparingly played since new, this instrument still has that woody "new guitar smell" when you open the case.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the COA and factory paperwork.
