Up for sale, a Moon JB-4 Limited Jazz Bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order. A boutique Japanese bass brand rarely seen outside its country of origin, the JB-4 Limited is an expertly crafted instrument boasting a thick slab pau ferro fretboard, two-piece alder body, a lacquer Sunburst finish, and Moon Custom Shop hand-wound MJB-504 single coils. An expressive, detailed-sounding bass, this JB-4 is fairly unique among the Moon product line, which tends to gravitate towards active electronics. These hand-wound passive pickups are decidedly traditional in their wind, offering a sweet, present upper midrange, punchy and clear bass register, and a smooth growl in the top end, accentuated by 45-100 roundwound strings. The bass weighs 9lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and spot-on intonation.
The semi-gloss nitro lacquer finish on the neck profile is smooth and easy-playing on the palm, with a medium C carve that offers lots of shoulder in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges. It’s an infinitely comfortable profile carve, feeling both fast and substantial, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and tapering to .980" at the 12th. The fretboard retains the original medium jumbo fretwire which has ample meat and height, showing just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-4 and virtually no wear further up the slab pau ferro fretboard. The scale length is a full 34", the nut measures 1 1/2" in width, and the headstock is fitted with the original vintage-style tuners with long stems and large clover buttons.
The body features restrained appointments including a single-ply white guard, low profile knobs, and near mint chrome hardware, with vintage-spec spiral bridge saddles. The body finish is a high gloss nitro which has gently settled into the grain of the alder on the lower bout of the top. Exceedingly well-kept and presumably only a year or two old based on the recent nature of this Limited run, wear is limited to just a couple exceedingly faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The neck profile is flawless.
A heavy duty padded gigbag is included.
