Up for sale, a 2005 JP Guitars Montserrat electric guitar in near mint condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Puyallup, WA, JP Guitars was founded in 1994 by luthier Jack Pimental, and has since accrued an impressive list of clientele including Joe Satriani, Jackson Brown, and Howard Leese of Heart. This Montserrat combines classic LP tonewood ingredients with distinct aesthetic refinements including flame maple binding, abalone inlay, and carved rosewood pickup rings, knobs, and truss rod cover. The top is a highly figured piece of carved quilted maple, capping a solid mahogany body paired with a one-piece mahogany neck. At the heart of the Montserrat is the original pair of Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 PAF-style humbuckers, which have a very traditional and dynamic tonal profile. Warm and crystalline cleans and rich, textured overdriven tonalities leap from the SH-1s, with ample muscle and smooth, near endless sustain. The guitar weighs 8lbs on the dot and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, dialed in with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a particularly slender and elegant C shaped profile carve with rounded shoulders and a smoothly contoured neck joint which is particularly ergonomic and welcomes soloing in the higher registers. The profile measures .799” deep at the 1st fret, tapering to .960” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard is bound with figured maple and features abalone dot and diamond inlay as well as the stock jumbo fretwire. The neck is arrow straight, the truss rod is optimally adjusted, and intuitive to any Gibson (or PRS) fan, the guitar boasts a 25” scale length and 1 11/16" nut width. The bound headstock has a quilted maple Sunburst-finished veneer, matching the body and inlaid with the JP script in abalone. The stock set of nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners are intact, which turn smoothly and hold their pitch well.
On the body, the electronics function flawlessly, with a three-way pickup selector toggle and Master Volume and Tone knobs governing the pair of Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 humbuckers. Accents include the carved rosewood knobs and pickup rings, while the ABR-1 bridge and stopbar tailpiece round out the traditional LP appointments. The quilted maple top is framed by figured maple and highlighted with a saturated gloss nitro lacquer Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish. Deep and dimensional, the quilted maple top is on par with Gibson's highest grade cuts. Babied since new, cosmetic wear on this Montserrat is limited to a single stray surface scratch in the clear coat of the gloss on the back lower bout edge, and just a few additional exceedingly minor finish scratches on the guitar as a whole. Easily "near mint," the guitar also boasts a flawless neck profile.
The original black tolex TKL hardshell case is included.
