Up for sale, a 2012 Tokai Jazz Sound model electric bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare left-handed iteration, this Jazz Sound has a great range of classic tones.
Designed to replicate the look and tonal properties of Fender's pioneering early-60s Jazz Bass model, this Tokai has a traditional tone wood compliment with a solid alder body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The bass offers a smooth acoustic tone with tight, round low end, healthy projection, and great clarity across all strings. Plugged in, the sound is bold and defined in the bass register, with an upper midrange burp and a smooth top end articulation thanks to the current set of D'addario Chromes flatwound strings. The bass weighs 9lbs 15oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Tokai Jazz Sound plays well with low action, 45-100 flatwound strings, and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C shape at the nut with moderate shoulder and faintly rolled fretboard edges, tapering gradually up the fretboard with more heft and roundness, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The bass adheres to traditional Fender-centric specs with a 1 1/2" nut width and full 34" scale, while the fretboard has a more modern 10” radius. The slender frets have their full factory height, well-rounded crowns, and just a touch of uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-3, with virtually no further wear up the fretboard. The neck is straight with an ideally adjusted truss rod, and the bass plays well in all registers. On the headstock, the original clover button tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The peghead sports a Tokai Jazz Sound logo with smaller "Oldies but Goodies" text, as well as a round string tree.
All of the electronics work as they should, with stock pickups and pots. The bridge pickup reads 7.25k ohms and the neck reads 6.75k ohms. The chrome hardware has a lustrous shine with only a hint of patina, and the brown tortoise pickguard pairs well with the gloss three-tone Sunburst finish. Cosmetic wear is limited to a bit of faint scuffing across the pick path and a few minor finish scratches and tiny nicks on the body as a whole. The neck profile finish is glossy and pristine. This bass has a great voice, solid feel, and a professional setup, ready for the studio and the stage.
The original Tokai padded gigbag is included.
