Up for sale, a 2014 Nocturne Dyno Brain preamp pedal in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Nocturne pedals are hand-wired one at a time in the USA by founder/designer Tavo Vega. The Dyno Brain preamp, part of Vega’s life-long goal of recreating Brian Setzer’s tone, is designed to be a recreation of a vintage Roland RE-301 Space Echo’s input preamp (the same vintage tape delay used extensively by Setzer). The resultant pedal succeeds in capturing that sweet, pristine vintage-style sound with excellent articulation and crisp definition. Vega uses only high quality components, including metal film and polystyrene film caps, Sprague and Panasonic electrolytics, 22 gauge bonded copper strand wiring, Xicon/Vishay metal film resistors in the audio path, and a socketed Opamp. Flying leads link Alpha pots and Switchcraft jacks with hardwire true bypass.
The two-knob control layout is simple and user-friendly with Low Cut and Gain controls. The Low Cut knob adds a surprisingly wide range,, clean and more modern-sounding when rolled back but producing a rich vintage tone with full midrange as it’s cranked up.
This pedal is in great shape, with only a few microscopic nicks on the orange sparkle housing. The original knobs are present, one of which has split and been repaired. The inside of the pedal is signed by Tavo Vega and dated to November, 2014.
