Up for sale, a Moon JJ-4 Jazz Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Moon-branded gigbag. A boutique Japanese bass brand rarely seen outside its country of origin, this JJ-4 is an expertly crafted instrument boasting a thick slab ebony fretboard, ash body, Kent Armstrong pickups, and factory upgrade gold hardware. Deep, smooth, and present, the bass offers tons of low end power and oomph, with an expressive midrange quality and ample EQ control given the active Black Bird preamp. Rolling back the treble offers a wide, deep rumble with smooth thump, and the tone stays very articulate thanks to the glassy, immediate response of the slab ebony fretboard. The bass weighs 9lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulders at the nut, filling out with more heft and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The slab ebony fretboard features pearl dot inlay and pristine stock medium jumbo fretwire. The bass plays cleanly in all registers up the straight neck with a responsive, ideally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is a full 34”, and the nut is solid aluminum, with the slender and easily navigable 1 1/2" standard J Bass width. The matching Walnut-finished headstock face features the Moon waterslide decal and stock gold tuning machines, individually embossed with the Moon logo and featuring long stems and clover buttons.

The Black Bird preamp offers dual Volume knobs as well as active Treble and Bass knobs with center detent pots. The bridge is a top loader design and hardware includes the quartet of knurled gold knobs, side jack, and strap buttons. Cosmetic wear is limited to some pick wear, a couple tiny doweled mounting holes from a previous thumbrest just forward of the bridge pickup, and light marks mostly relegated to the perimeter of the body. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth with just a few shallow marks that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.

The original Moon-branded gigbag is included.
