Up for sale, a Moon JB-248OX Jazz Bass in like-new condition and in perfect working order, complete with all original hangtags and the Moon-branded padded gigbag. A boutique Japanese brand rarely seen outside its country of origin, this expertly crafted Moon bass draws inspiration from the classic Fender platform, sporting a two-piece white ash body, one-piece maple neck, bound maple fretboard, Bartolini XTCT active two-band preamp, and OXALIS VJB-4 pickups. These vintage-style Jazz Bass pickups faithfully translate the midrange heft and punch of the ash body treble cut of the maple fingerboard, accentuating the natural upper midrange burp and growl central to a Jazz Bass. Offering excellent tone sculpting via the active XTCT Bartolini preamp, the bass has a round, thumpy low end with the treble rolled back to taste, and the range and definition of the instrument is remarkable. This Moon weighs 9lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings.
The one-piece maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve with round shoulders, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The bound maple fretboard features block inlay and flawless medium jumbo fretwire. The scale length is 34”, and the bone nut is a slender 1 1/2" in width. The headstock face features the original gold Moon waterslide decal and stock nickel tuning machines, featuring long stems and clover buttons.
On the body, the electronics function as intended, with the OXALIS pickups wired to the Bartolini XTCT two-band preamp. This active preamp has the same tonal response as golden age Fender amplifiers with Treble/Bass controls. The Bass and Treble knobs offer about 12dB boost or cut at 50Hz and 6KHz, respectively. The bridge is a heavy-duty top loader design, and additional chrome-plated hardware includes the quartet of knurled knobs, side jack, round string tree, and Fender-style strap buttons. Cosmetic wear is limited to faint pick scuffing on the guard on the treble side of the pick path. Both the body and neck profile sport a pristine gloss finish.
The original Moon-branded gigbag is included, along with all of the original hangtags.
